Emotion is Power

Emotion is Power

Book cover titled 'The Storm That Broke the World' by Tim Slocum, featuring a silhouette of a person standing by a lake with lightning in the sky.

Synopsis

When the sky learned to feel, the world forgot how to breathe.

In the aftermath of the Resonance—a storm that turns human emotion into living light—cities fall, and people change. Some burn from the inside out. Others become something worse.

Kalen Rourke lost everything the night the sky came down—his wife, his child, and the last sense of what it meant to be human. Now, hunted by the regime that studies the survivors they call Echoforms, he discovers a power inside him that answers not to rage or fear, but to grief itself.

Doctor Elena Markov once believed empathy could save what was left of the world. Now her research may be the key to unleashing it. As the storm grows sentient and begins to learn through human feeling, Elena and Kalen must decide whether emotion is mankind’s last weapon—or its final undoing.

In a ruined city pulsing with color and memory, love, rage, and sorrow have become literal forces of nature. And the only way to survive is to learn how to feel without breaking.
